Artist's Studio 106

Indpendent Artist Studios and Gallery

Top Floor, 106 Barkly Street, St Kilda, Victoria, Australia | @106art |

Artist's Studio 106 gratefully acknowledges the receipt of a Neighbourhood Programs Committee Grant from the City of Port Phillip to contribute towards the mounting of 'Chronicle 106: Louise Chen and Studio 106 Artists' group art exhibition.

We occasionally mount group shows and our artists organise their own exhibitions and workshops in the gallery space. We host a regular writer group called BumGlueClub, kids craft workshops, artist markets and all kinds of other events. Like our Facebook page to stay up to date with activities. Our gallery space is also available for hire to other local artists wanting to mount their own exhibitions. We just require a brief proposal, your dates, times and ticketing details. There is no set hire rate, every exhibition enquiry is considered on its own merits. We can help you promote your event if you need and we love taking part in festivals such as Midsummer and the Melbourne Fringe. So if you have an idea for an exhibition, sing out.

Chronicle 106: Louise Chen and Studio 106 artists.

Featuring the photography of Louise Chen and the art of Studio 106 artists: Ulises Resendiz, Helen Gries, Heidi Knoepfli, Sebastian Steensen, Anthony Breslin, Tamar Dolev, Ivan Sun, Katrina Mathers,  Jo Richards, Maria Leonard, Josie Wadelton and the late Ruv Nemiro.

Established in 1995, Studio 106 is home to visual artists, filmmakers and writers hailing from diverse cultural backgrounds and working across a range of media.

At a time of major residential development across the  City many artist studios are vulnerable to closure. Louise Chen’s photographs and film, alongside the artists’ work, chronicle the current cohort of Studio 106 artists before the inevitable redevelopment of the site occurs.

Opening event: Thursday 6 February, 6 pm to 8 pm

Meet the Artists: Thursday 20 February, 5 pm to 7 pm

The gallery is available for external hire for local exhibitions.
